Birth photography is it’s own industry. While it can be classified under “event photography”, it is indeed unlike any other event! As a photographer, you are asked to be on call 24/7 for a week prior to and often after the expected due date & then generally try to produce quality images in less than ideal lighting conditions. When asked why my birth sessions begin at $1,000, I try to convey the commitment I am making when my clients schedule one. Can you really put a price tag on the photo that captures the moment your child took their very first breath? Come with me as we follow this birth story . . . I hope you’ll see how priceless it really is . . .
At her last doctor’s appointment, Amanda was informed that while not imminent, her son’s birth would be “soon & very fast” . . . her doctor didn’t know just how right she would be! We were all on high alert & I made sure I was close at hand! Amanda had been having contractions for several weeks, but they had been coming more frequently in the evenings, causing her to wonder if this was the night her son would join their family. On Sunday morning, 5 days after she had visited her doctor, her contractions actually woke her up. She continued to have them all morning, but refused to be sucked in to the hope that the moment had finally arrived . . . that all changed about 1 pm!
She decided that, yes, this really WAS the time, and at 2, she headed to the hospital. She was admitted at 2:12 pm after the nurse checked her and exclaimed “You’re 8cm dilated!” . . . things moved very quickly after that! She was moved into a birthing room . . . still smiling . . .
She had decided she did not want any pain medication (I know, right??!), and I’m telling you, this girl should be writing birthing books . . .
Everything was ready for the new arrival . . .
The whirlpool bath was her favorite part of labor . . . if it’s really possible to have a “favorite” part
Okay, so take a look at the time as she’s coming out of the bathroom . . .
and then . . . at 3:19 pm . . . he was here!
every perfect, adorable, sweet thing about him was finally here!
After we all picked our jaws up off the floor, I mean, seriously, 2 hours?? Who does that??!! It was time for Levi to pass inspection . . . and pass he did!
Daddy’s boy . . .
What greater moment than when a family grows in love . . .
and a mother’s heart continues to beat outside of her own body . . .
What greater moment than when life continues on . . . life that God has created with purpose and for His glory . . .
Welcome to this world, sweet Levi! May your days be filled with joy and peace, and may you always walk hand in hand with your Creator. We all love you so much! Today. Everlasting.
